Peta Ashworth has recently been appointed as the Director, Andrew N. Liveris Academy for Innovation and Leadership which aims to create the next generation of talented, tenacious and well-rounded scholars who will go forward in this world to lead us into new and unchartered territories with a vigour and ardour to change our world for the better. Peta has been Chair in Sustainable Energy Futures at the University of Queensland since April 2016 where she has responsibility for the Master of Sustainable Energy program. As a social scientist she is interested in the intersection of science and technology in society and her research focuses on understanding public attitudes towards climate change and energy technologies including carbon capture and storage. More recently was a member of the Hydrogen Strategy Group led by Australia’s Chief Scientist Dr Alan Finkel. Her research has been investigating the Australian public’s response to the idea of hydrogen production and use both in Australia and for export.
