Risen Energy is currently constructing the Yarranlea 103 MW (ac) and 134 MW (dc) Solar Farm (YSF) connecting to the Yarranlea 110 kV substation of Ergon Energy. The development approval of the Yarranlea Solar plant has provision for battery storage. With combined Solar PV and battery storage, Risen Energy will be able to receive increased returns from the infrastructure currently being installed for the Yarranlea SF.
Risen Energy therefore explored financial feasibility of a battery storage facility at Yarranlea SF.
This paper presents findings of the feasibility study that includes a detailed review of the NEM situation for battery storage, opportunities in the NEM, financial drivers for battery storage, and financial feasibility of Yarranlea battery storage.
